You might not pay much attention to the lint that gets formed in the dryer. But you must know that dryer lint can be a serious life hazard. Clothes dryers are one of the main causes of a fire in the house. More than 20,000 house fires have been reported with the dryers as the main reason.

Lint gets build up inside every type of dryer. No doubt there is a lint trap but then there is ductwork and dryer vent also. When lint builds up in these areas, airflow is restricted and the efficiency of your dryer reduces. At times, you may also find the need to get help from a good dryer repair expert company.

Lint can also cause increased humidity around vents that can result in mold and mildew on the walls of the dryer. The biggest risk is that lint is highly combustible that can lead to a fire.

It is quite a simple process to remove lint. Remove the dryer lint trap after every use and take our the lint that is there. If you see is a clogged screen, it might be due to improper dryer sheet use.

You can even buy a dryer lint brush. It has a long flexible brush that will help those areas of your dryer that is impossible to reach by your hands. You just have to take the lint filter out and push down the brush in the opening. This will help to remove any built-up lint that did not come out with the filter. Do not push the brush very hard. You just have to move the brush in a way that you can reach as many surfaces as possible. When you are done, just put back the filter in the dryer.

How to clean the dryer vent

People usually remember to clean up the dryer lint traps but ignore the dryer vents. You should clean the vents at least once a year.

Start with unplugging the dryer. Find the point where exhaust vent connects with the dryer. There must be a pipe or hose held by a clip or clamp. You can easily loosen up with some tools. When you take off the pipe, reach to the opening of the dryer. You can also make use of a vent brush and take out all the lint possible. With the help of a damp cloth, clean the connection to remove any residual lint.

If you still see a white duct hose, replace it. If ignited it can promote severe house fire.
